I have updated with some comments from Paul Schellhammer, MD, a prostate cancer patient and past president of the AMerican Urological Association.

I heard this news on NPR and heard someone call his RP minor surgery. It may be minimally invasive, but certainly not minor.

I’m about to embark on AS after 24 months on ADT. I only wish I could’ve had a RP, but it had spread locally when discovered.

Thanks, Munro.

I am working some angles. It's hard to get this information.

Thank you Howard for your prompt article on Sec Austin. We must be thinking in the same way. I, too, thought it was PCa but then that would be too coincidental. I initially thought it was a prostate biopsy because one early report said he wasn’t under anesthesia. His post procedure problems reminded me of my first biopsy. Then I read the Department of Defense statement which said he had a RP but was under anesthesia. Having researched RP, I found terminology saying minimally evasive but that was because of the robotic surgery. It is still major surgery. (One doctor told me that the only minor surgery is when it is being done on someone else.)

I would be interested in hearing the rest of his story, I.e. Gleason score, mri and biopsy results just to see what prompted his decision.

Keep up the good work Howard.
