Thanks, Richard. Major medical groups, such as the American Cancer Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, urge screening all cancer patients for emotional stress (anxiety and depression). But I suspect this not done often--at least formally. And a couple of professional groups that deal with us prostate cancer patients--American Urological Association and the American Society of Radiation Oncologists (ASTRO)--don't have guidelines calling for such screening. Fortunately, there exists the means to discover the early onset of depression and anxiety as well as ongoing monitoring, but that means specialists and their respective associations need show enough interest in their patients to act.
