NOT EXACTLY .... Mr. W!! The result may have had something to do with how the Organizers set up the polls - do I hear cries of "Fix!"
In a true Oxford debate, the poll slide you show revealing what people actually got, should have been followed at the outset with a second poll asking: what they would choose TR, TP, or undecided?
That is then compared to the poll taken at the end wiith the very same question to see how opinion has been moved.
Unfortunately we never asked for an unbiased choice at the beginning.
That said, there was a small movement to TP from question time on ....
So in defence of Dr. Deborah, I feel we should be asking about the debate protocols as much as the biopsy procedures.
Just sayin' ...
Overall - a very good and educational program. Tx HW.
Doing the best we could. I wrote the last question not the first.
I'd say that nearly half saying they want transperineal, far more than transrectal, is a major statement. Not claiming the debate changed minds. We don't know. But I was surprised so many want transperineal.
Last night's webinar on biopsies was excellent. Coincidentally, tomorrow I am having a psa blood test and will see my urologist on September 7th. My last biopsy which was June 2021 showed no cancer. My previous biopsy in June 2020 showed 1/10 of one core positive for gleason 6. If I need a biopsy I would prefer transperineal, however my current urologist (Whom I am happy with) doesn't do it. I did ask him about it on my last visit and his response was that he saw no reason to switch.
Also, a while back you wrote about a study being conducted by NYU Langone medical center in NYC regarding exercise and sleep for prostate cancer patients. I just spoke with them and I will be their first participant.
Again, Howard, thanks for all that you do. I have learned so much from you.
Sincerely,
Steven
Thanks, Steve.
Appreciate your attending and voting--even if dubious Kaiser will help. Eventually, hey will wake up. Those of us who can, shoukld vote with our feet. Hearts, minds, and prostates will follow.
Thanks, John. A Canadian doctor told me earlier his year, that urology is a business like any other. Patients need to vote with their feet and their prostates will follow. D. Kaye made convincing arguments. But Dr. George won the day. Check this out: https://howardwolinsky.substack.com/p/transrectal-biopsies-avoid-them-at
Howard, I've had 3 TR biopsies and voted for next one TP at last night's meeting even knowing that it won't be since it's not offered in my particular setup, Kaiser. They're fairly much dinosaurs when it comes to new things, and other than leaving them there's nothing I can do. Oh well.
