Thanks, Harley. I have not seen much of Facebook groups. I stopped looking when some guys referred to AS as "slow-motion suicide." I think they meant you were doomed unless you had a radical prostatectomy or aggressive radiation therapy. Is it still like that? Sounds like fear of AS. Not trusting it. And maybe rationalizing the decision to treat and maybe anger over side effects? What do you think?

Well done article. The underlying thread that I saw was the sad inability of a large number of men to 'man-up'. Unfortunately, this was the factor that had many Uros doing TRUS without any numbing to the prostate at all. Ya just can't win.

Well, 40% of men who qualify for AS—based on a low-risk diagnosis—opt to be treated.

Is it that they can’t “man” up? Is it anxiety? Is it poor education on the part of urologists and radiation oncologists?

You tell me.

Thanks, Harley.

The 'man-up' comment has to do with fear of testing for whatever reason, most of which are sadly psychological. Frankly, when I see a post on the FB PCa groups where a man says "I just wanted to get it out" that's inability to 'man-up' and face doing whatever is necessary to extend life and the quality therein. It's a risk and real men take risks, otherwise, we would not have become the apex predators of the planet. Yes, that has a downside as well considering the mess we have made of it. <sigh>
